The normal procedure for removing and replacing your 7.3 injectors results in the draining of the fuel and oil galleys in the engine’s cylinder heads. The fuel and oil from these galley ends up in each Piston’s bowl which requires extraction through using any one of various methods. This not only adds to a technician’s time on the job, but also creates the possibility for hydro-locking the engine and causing severe damage to the pushrods, rocker arms, or valves. This method also adds wear and tear to the trucks starter and batteries from the extensive long cranking cycles required to re-start the engine after this kind of work is performed.

We offer two different versions of our 7.3 Injector Bore Plugs:

Rosewood Diesel Shop 7.3 Power Stroke Engine Injector Bore Short Plug Kit

The first version, our Short Plugs, are great for when you have to perform work like inspecting or replacing the injector sleeves. These plugs allow you to fully drain the fuel and oil galleys, but contain all of the fluid within the injector bores for easy clean up. Once the fluids have finished draining you can then evacuate the fuel and oil from the injector bores, remove the plugs, and continue with your injector sleeve inspection or extraction. The Short Plugs will still require extended crank times to start the engine, however, but prevent the fluids from getting into the engine, and saves time by not having to go through the thorough fluid evacuation process.

Our second version, the Long Plugs, are for when no additional work needs to be performed. These will seal off the oil and fuel galleys 100% indefinitely. These are great for the whole set or for a single injector. Pop the old injector out and immediately install one of our Long Plugs with minimal fluids loss. This keeps everything sealed up for when you send your injector set off to get rebuilt, or for when you need to send a single injector in for rebuilding, repairing, etc. When you have the new, fresh injector in hand, just remove the plug and immediately install your injector. No more evacuating the cylinders, no more long crank time, no more dead batteries from all the extra cranking, and no more risk of engine damage!
